What is Armotraz 1?
Armotraz 1 is a generic Arimidex tablet made by Cipla. Each tablet contains 1 mg of anastrozole, the same active ingredient and strength as Arimidex®. It is used to treat hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer in postmenopausal women.

Uses of Armotraz 1
Anastrozole is used for:
- Early hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer in postmenopausal women (including after surgery).
- Advanced or metastatic hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer.
It is not for premenopausal women or for men unless a specialist directs it.
How does Armotraz 1 work?
Anastrozole is an aromatase inhibitor. After the menopause most oestrogen is made by the enzyme aromatase in fat and other tissues. By blocking this enzyme, anastrozole lowers oestrogen levels, which slows the growth of hormone-sensitive breast cancer cells.
Armotraz 1 dosage: how to take it
- The usual dose is one 1 mg tablet once a day, at about the same time each day.
- Swallow with water, with or without food.
- Treatment normally continues for several years, as decided by your oncologist.
- If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless the next dose is due – never take two together.
Armotraz 1 side effects
Common: hot flushes, joint pain and stiffness, weakness, headache, nausea, rash, vaginal dryness, hair thinning, low mood.
Longer-term: bone thinning (osteoporosis) and raised cholesterol – bone density is usually monitored.
Get medical help for: severe skin reactions, swelling of the face or throat, yellowing of the skin or eyes, unusual vaginal bleeding, or leg swelling and chest pain.
Who should not take Armotraz 1?
Do not take Armotraz if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, are premenopausal, or are allergic to anastrozole.
Tell your doctor first if you have osteoporosis, liver or kidney disease, heart disease or high cholesterol.
Armotraz 1 drug interactions
- Tamoxifen and oestrogen-containing medicines (including HRT) – reduce the effect of anastrozole.
- Other cancer treatments – your oncologist will advise.
Tell your doctor about all medicines and supplements you use.
How to store Armotraz 1
Store below 30°C in a dry place in the original blister strip, away from light. Keep out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date.
