What is Latoprost?

How does Latoprost work?
Latanoprost is a prostaglandin analogue. It increases the outflow of fluid from the eye, which lowers the pressure inside the eye.
Latoprost dosage: how to take it
- The usual dose is one drop in the affected eye(s) once a day, in the evening.
- Wash your hands, tilt the head back, pull down the lower lid and let one drop fall without touching the tip to the eye.
- Close the eye gently for a minute and press the inner corner to limit absorption.
- Do not use more than once a day – extra doses can reduce the effect.
Latoprost side effects
Common: eye redness, stinging, itching, longer or darker eyelashes, darkening of the iris colour (permanent), blurred vision.
Get medical help for: eye pain, sudden vision loss, swelling or discharge, or a severe allergic reaction.
Who should not take Latoprost?
Do not use if you are allergic to latanoprost or benzalkonium chloride.
Tell your doctor first if you have eye inflammation, a history of herpes eye infection, macular oedema, severe asthma, or are pregnant or breastfeeding. Remove contact lenses before use and wait 15 minutes before putting them back.
Latoprost drug interactions
Do not use with other prostaglandin drops (bimatoprost, travoprost). Using eye drops containing thiomersal may cause precipitation. If you use other eye drops, wait at least 5 minutes between them. Tell your doctor about all medicines you use.
How to store Latoprost
Store unopened bottles in a refrigerator (2°C to 8°C). Once opened, keep below 25°C and discard after 4 weeks. Protect from light and keep out of the sight and reach of children.
