How orlistat 120mg works
Orlistat blocks lipase, an enzyme your gut uses to break down fat. About a quarter of the fat you eat then passes through the body without being absorbed. Orlistat works best alongside a reduced-calorie, lower-fat diet and regular activity, and it is usually prescribed for adults with a BMI of 30 or more, or 28 or more with weight-related health risks.
How to take orlistat
- One 120 mg capsule with each main meal that contains fat, up to three times a day.
- Skip the dose if you miss a meal or the meal contains no fat.
- Take a daily multivitamin at bedtime, as orlistat can reduce absorption of vitamins A, D, E and K.

Generic orlistat vs Xenical
Generic orlistat contains the same active ingredient at the same 120 mg strength as Xenical. The main difference is price, which makes a difference because weight-loss treatment usually runs for several months.
