Description

Buy Coolprost, a generic Lumigan eye drop containing bimatoprost 0.03% with benzalkonium chloride, made by Johnlee Pharmaceuticals. Each 3 ml bottle costs $35, with discreet, tracked worldwide shipping. A valid prescription is required.

What is Coolprost?

Coolprost is a generic Lumigan eye drop. It contains bimatoprost 0.03% w/v (0.3 mg per ml) – the same active ingredient, at the same strength, as brand-name Lumigan® 0.3 mg/ml – with benzalkonium chloride 0.02% v/v as a preservative. It is made by Johnlee Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd. in India and is prescribed to lower raised pressure inside the eye in adults with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.

Because Coolprost is generic bimatoprost 0.03% eye drops, it works in the same way as the branded medicine at a lower bimatoprost price – helpful for a treatment that is usually used every day for the long term.

Coolprost is supplied in a 3 ml dropper bottle, which usually lasts about one month when used in both eyes once a day.

Uses of Coolprost

Coolprost (bimatoprost 0.03% eye drops) is used for:

  • Open-angle glaucoma – a condition in which raised pressure inside the eye can damage the optic nerve and gradually affect vision.
  • Ocular hypertension – higher than normal eye pressure without signs of optic nerve damage, which increases the risk of developing glaucoma.

Lowering eye pressure helps protect the optic nerve and reduce the risk of further sight loss. It does not restore vision that has already been lost, so it is important to use the drops every day as prescribed and attend regular eye check-ups.

A note on eyelash growth: bimatoprost can make eyelashes longer and darker. A separate product, Latisse®, contains bimatoprost 0.03% and is approved for thin or sparse eyelashes – it is applied to the upper eyelid margin with sterile applicators, not dropped into the eye. Coolprost is an eye drop for glaucoma and ocular hypertension; do not use it for cosmetic purposes unless a doctor advises you to.

How does Coolprost work?

Bimatoprost belongs to a group of medicines called prostaglandin analogues. The eye constantly produces a clear fluid (aqueous humour) that normally drains away. In glaucoma and ocular hypertension, this fluid does not drain well enough and pressure builds up. Bimatoprost increases the outflow of fluid from the eye, which lowers the pressure.

How fast does it work? Eye pressure usually starts to fall about 4 hours after the first drop, with the maximum effect reached after around 8 to 12 hours. One evening dose keeps working for about 24 hours.

Coolprost dosage: how to take it

  • The usual dose is one drop in the affected eye(s) once a day, in the evening.
  • Do not use it more than once a day – using it more often can make it less effective at lowering eye pressure.
  • Wash your hands, tilt your head back, gently pull down the lower eyelid and place one drop in the pocket formed. Close your eye and press gently on the inner corner for about a minute.
  • Do not let the dropper tip touch your eye or any surface, to avoid contamination.
  • If you use other eye drops, wait at least 5 minutes between different drops.
  • Always use the dose your prescribing doctor has told you to use. If you miss a dose, use the next one at the usual time – do not double up.

Coolprost side effects

Like all medicines, bimatoprost can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.

Common side effects:

  • Red or bloodshot eyes
  • Itchy, dry or irritated eyes
  • Longer, thicker and darker eyelashes
  • Darkening of the eyelid skin around the eye
  • Gradual darkening of the iris (the coloured part of the eye) – more brown colour may appear, and this change is likely to be permanent. It is more noticeable if only one eye is treated
  • Sunken appearance of the eyes or a deeper eyelid fold
  • Headache

Stop using Coolprost and get medical help if you have:

  • Eye pain, swelling or signs of infection
  • Sudden changes in vision, blurred vision or sensitivity to light
  • Signs of an allergic reaction – rash, swelling of the eyelids, face, lips or throat, or difficulty breathing

Who should not take Coolprost?

Do not use Coolprost if you:

  • Are allergic to bimatoprost, benzalkonium chloride or any other ingredient of the drops

Contact lenses: Coolprost contains the preservative benzalkonium chloride, which can be absorbed by and discolour soft contact lenses and may irritate the eye. Remove contact lenses before using the drops and wait at least 15 minutes before putting them back in.

Talk to your doctor first if you have ever had eye inflammation (uveitis), eye surgery including cataract surgery, macular oedema, a history of herpes eye infection, liver or kidney problems, breathing problems, or low blood pressure or a slow heartbeat. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding. The drops may cause temporary blurred vision – do not drive until your vision is clear.

Coolprost drug interactions

Tell your doctor about every medicine you use, including other eye drops and those bought without a prescription. Important points include:

  • Other prostaglandin eye drops (such as latanoprost or travoprost) – using more than one at the same time can reduce the pressure-lowering effect.
  • Other glaucoma drops (such as timolol) – can often be used with bimatoprost if prescribed; leave at least 5 minutes between drops.
  • Eyelash growth products – do not use a separate bimatoprost eyelash product at the same time unless your doctor advises it.

How to store Coolprost

Store Coolprost below 25°C, or as stated on the pack, with the cap tightly closed. Discard the bottle 4 weeks after first opening, even if some solution is left, to reduce the risk of infection. Keep it out of the sight and reach of children, and do not use it after the expiry date printed on the pack.

Coolprost – frequently asked questions

Is Coolprost the same as Lumigan?

Coolprost contains the same active ingredient (bimatoprost) at the same strength (0.03%, or 0.3 mg/ml) as Lumigan® 0.3 mg/ml, so it works in the same way. The difference is the manufacturer, the name, the price and possibly the bottle.

Can I use Coolprost if I wear contact lenses?

Yes, but remove your lenses before putting the drops in and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them. The preservative benzalkonium chloride can be absorbed by soft contact lenses.

Will bimatoprost change the colour of my eyes?

It can. Bimatoprost may slowly increase the brown colour of the iris, and this change is likely to be permanent. It can also darken the eyelid skin and make eyelashes grow longer and darker. Tell your doctor if you are concerned.

Can I use Coolprost to grow my eyelashes?

Coolprost is an eye drop prescribed for glaucoma and ocular hypertension. Bimatoprost for eyelashes (Latisse®) is a separate product applied to the upper eyelid margin with sterile applicators. Do not use eye drops for cosmetic purposes unless a doctor advises you to.

Do I need a prescription to buy Coolprost?

Yes. Bimatoprost is a prescription medicine, and glaucoma treatment needs regular eye pressure checks. We may ask for a copy of your prescription before we dispatch your order.

Why should I use the drops only once a day?

Using bimatoprost more often than once a day can reduce its ability to lower eye pressure. Use one drop in the evening, or exactly as your doctor has prescribed.
