What is Erlonat 150?
Erlonat 150 is a generic Tarceva tablet made by Natco Pharma. Each tablet contains 150 mg of erlotinib, the same active ingredient and strength as Tarceva®. It is a targeted therapy used for certain lung cancers and for advanced pancreatic cancer.
Packs of 30, 60 and 90 tablets are available, from about $7.14 per tablet on the largest pack. At the usual dose of one tablet a day, 30 tablets is a 30-day supply.
Uses of Erlonat 150
Erlotinib is used for:
- Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with EGFR exon 19 deletions or exon 21 (L858R) mutations, as first-line treatment, maintenance, or after other chemotherapy has failed.
- Pancreatic cancer that is locally advanced or has spread, in combination with gemcitabine.
How does Erlonat 150 work?
Erlotinib is an EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor. It blocks the epidermal growth factor receptor on cancer cells, switching off the signal that tells them to grow and divide.
Erlonat 150 dosage: how to take it
- Lung cancer: usually 150 mg once a day. Pancreatic cancer: usually 100 mg once a day with gemcitabine.
- Take on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after food, at the same time each day.
- Your doctor may lower the dose if rash or diarrhoea is troublesome.
- Smoking lowers erlotinib levels; tell your doctor if you smoke.
Erlonat 150 side effects
Common: acne-like skin rash, diarrhoea, dry skin, loss of appetite, tiredness, nausea, mouth sores, dry or sore eyes.
Serious – get medical help for: new or worsening cough or breathlessness (possible lung inflammation), severe or lasting diarrhoea, severe eye pain or redness, yellowing of the skin or eyes, severe stomach pain, severe skin blistering.
Who should not take Erlonat 150?
Do not take Erlonat if you are pregnant or breastfeeding or are allergic to erlotinib.
Tell your doctor first if you have liver or kidney problems, lung disease, eye problems or a history of stomach ulcers. Use effective contraception during treatment and for at least 2 weeks afterwards. Liver function is checked regularly.
Erlonat 150 drug interactions
- Omeprazole, esomeprazole, ranitidine and antacids – reduce absorption; timing matters.
- Ketoconazole, itraconazole, clarithromycin, ciprofloxacin – raise erlotinib levels.
- Rifampicin, phenytoin, carbamazepine, St John’s wort – lower levels.
- Warfarin – bleeding risk; INR monitoring needed.
How to store Erlonat 150
Store below 25°C in a dry place in the original bottle. Keep out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date.
