How does Temonat 100 work?
Temozolomide is an alkylating chemotherapy agent. In the body it changes into a compound that damages the DNA of tumour cells, stopping them from dividing and causing them to die. It can cross from the blood into the brain.
Temonat 100 dosage: how to take it
- The dose is calculated by your oncologist from your height and weight (body surface area) and changes between cycles.
- Swallow capsules whole with a glass of water, on an empty stomach (at least one hour before or two hours after food); do not open or chew them.
- Take at the same time each day, often at bedtime, with an anti-sickness medicine if prescribed.
- Blood counts are checked regularly.
Temonat 100 side effects
Common: nausea and vomiting, tiredness, constipation, headache, loss of appetite, hair thinning, rash.
Serious – get medical help for: fever or infection, unusual bruising or bleeding, severe breathlessness or cough, yellowing of the skin or eyes, severe skin reactions.
Who should not take Temonat 100?
Do not take Temonat if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or are allergic to temozolomide or dacarbazine.
Tell your doctor first if you have liver or kidney disease or low blood counts. Effective contraception is needed during and after treatment. Preventive antibiotics are often prescribed when used with radiotherapy.
Temonat 100 drug interactions
- Valproic acid – may raise temozolomide levels.
- Other chemotherapy and medicines that lower blood counts – risk of low blood counts rises.
- Warfarin – monitoring advised.
Tell your doctor about all medicines you use.
How to store Temonat 100
Store below 25°C in a dry place in the original bottle. Keep out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date. Do not open the capsules.
