What is Sutinat 50?
Sutinat 50 is a generic Sutent capsule made by Natco Pharma. Each capsule contains 50 mg of sunitinib, the same active ingredient and strength as Sutent®. It is a targeted cancer medicine used for advanced kidney cancer and certain tumours of the digestive system.

Uses of Sutinat 50
Sunitinib is used for:
- Advanced renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer), and after kidney removal to reduce the risk of recurrence in high-risk patients.
- Gastrointestinal stromal tumour (GIST) after imatinib has stopped working or was not tolerated.
- Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours (pNET) that cannot be removed by surgery.
How does Sutinat 50 work?
Sunitinib is a multi-targeted tyrosine kinase inhibitor. It blocks proteins such as VEGFR, PDGFR and KIT that tumour cells use to grow and to form new blood vessels, so the tumour is starved of supply and growth slows.
Sutinat 50 dosage: how to take it
- The usual dose for kidney cancer and GIST is 50 mg once a day for 4 weeks, followed by 2 weeks off (a 6-week cycle). For pNET the dose is usually 37.5 mg daily without a break.
- Swallow capsules whole with water, with or without food, at the same time each day.
- Your doctor may reduce the dose or pause treatment depending on side effects.
- Avoid grapefruit juice.
Sutinat 50 side effects
Common: tiredness, diarrhoea, nausea, mouth sores, taste changes, high blood pressure, hand-foot skin reaction, yellowing of the skin colour, hair colour change, low blood counts.
Serious – get medical help for: chest pain or breathlessness, swelling of the legs, severe headache or confusion, bleeding, yellowing of the eyes or dark urine (liver problems), severe skin reactions.
Who should not take Sutinat 50?
Do not take Sutinat if you are pregnant or breastfeeding or are allergic to sunitinib.
Tell your doctor first if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, a thyroid disorder, liver or kidney problems, bleeding problems, or are due for surgery or dental work. Liver function, blood counts, blood pressure and heart function are monitored during treatment. Use effective contraception.
Sutinat 50 drug interactions
- Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (ketoconazole, itraconazole, ritonavir, clarithromycin) and grapefruit juice – raise sunitinib levels.
- Strong CYP3A4 inducers (rifampicin, phenytoin, carbamazepine, St John’s wort) – lower levels.
- Warfarin – monitoring advised.

Store below 25°C in a dry place in the original bottle. Keep out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date.
